- PRINCIPAL DIAGNOSIS AND PRINCIPAL PROCEDURE
- Diagnosis1 is a special option that allows you to look at only the Principal Diagnosis data fields
(first diagnosis) coded in the Medicare Inpatient or Outpatient medical records
- Use the Principal Diagnosis to compute length of stay or monies associated with diagnosis.
- Procedure1 is a special option that allows you to look at only the Principal Procedure data fields (first procedure) coded in Medicare Inpatient Medical records
- INCIDENCE OF DIAGNOSES AND PROCEDURES
- DiagnosisInc is a powerful option that searches all diagnosis data fields
coded in the Medicare Inpatient or Outpatient medical records
- This may be used to select or study patients who have certain types of diseases that may or may not be coded as a Principal Diagnosis (e.g., diabetic patients).
- You may want to know the frequencies of specified diseases whether they are Principal or Secondary Diagnoses
- SurgProcedureInc is a powerful option that searches all surgical data fields coded in the Medicare Inpatient Medical records
- ROLLUPS
- ROLLUP for DIAGNOSES
- If you select a three-digit code from the list that has four and/or five-digit code breakouts, all valid codes beginning with that three-digit code will be selected (e.g., if you select the code '250', all records with any valid code '25000' through '25093' will be included)
- If you select a four-digit code from the list that has five-digit code breakouts, all valid codes beginning with that four-digit code will be selected (e.g., if you select the code '2500', all records with any valid code '25000' through '25003' will be included)
- ROLLUP for PROCEDURES
- If you select a three-digit code from the list that has four-digit code breakouts, all valid codes beginning with that three-digit code will be selected (e.g., if you select the code '452', all records with any valid code '4521' through '4529' will be included)
- DIAGNOSIS OUTPUT
- When you CLASSIFY on the Diagnosis data fields and use the ALL
or TOP OPTION, you choose from the screen the number of digits in the diagnoses to be ranked
- When All (3,4 and 5) is selected, the program sorts and ranks by all valid diagnoses coded in the records selected and creates a line in the report for each valid diagnosis, whether it has three, four or five digits
- When 3 Digit Diagnosis is selected, the program will roll-up all Diagnoses into three-digit codes (e.g., the valid diagnosis codes in the range 25000-25093 will be rolled-up into code 250)
- When 4 Digit Diagnosis is selected, the program will roll-up all Diagnoses into four-digit codes
- PROCEDURES OUTPUT
- When you CLASSIFY on the Procedure data fields and use ALL or
TOP, you choose the number of digits in the procedures to be ranked
- When All (3 and 4) is selected for procedures, the program sorts and ranks by all valid procedures coded in the records selected and creates a line in the report for each valid procedure, whether it has three or four digits
- When 3 Digit Procedures is selected, the program sorts and ranks by all procedures rolled- up to the three-digit codes (e.g., the procedure codes 4521-4529 will be rolled-up into the code 452)
