Using These Runs
Only two of the top 10 diagnoses for the inpatient database were in the top 10 diagnoses for the outpatient database: "4280 CHF NOS" and "41401 CRNRY ATHRSCL NATVE VSSL".
"CHEST PAIN NEC" was in the top 10 diagnoses for the inpatient database and "CHEST PAIN NOS" was in the top 10 diagnoses for the outpatient database.
The ability to load the inpatient and outpatient databases at the same time gives the analyst the power to produce some very revealing reports. This is especially true when the databases have more data fields, e.g., patient identification. With this information you can track patients who were initially treated in outpatient settings and later were admitted as inpatients.
